Intended as a prestige saloon automobile comparable with
world-class luxury cars and moving a step beyond the Crown Eight, the
Century debuted in 1967 as a car with a totally new design. The Century was
capable of tremendous power almost unimaginable from its Japanese styling
and its naming, relating to the 100th anniversary of Sakichi Toyoda's birth
and the Meiji Centennial. It achieved both luxury and high performance.
